Perfection is the enemy of good enough.

Good Enough

Perfection is the enemy of good enough. This quote’s been buzzing in my brain lately, and I wanted to share with you friends a few words as we head in to this festive but busy season. You may be inclined to fret over every small holiday detail – the hostess gift to buy, outfit to wear or dish to serve – but please do yourself a kind favor and don’t. Don’t try to make everything PERFECT.

Be content with GOOD ENOUGH.

Good enough is showing up to the party with a bottle of wine, no bow or fancy wine bag, that you grabbed from your fridge just before leaving. Good enough is choosing a party dress from your closet that you feel great wearing, instead of panic shopping for the perfect one. Good enough is knowing when to put down the scissors and step away from the Christmas crafts. Good enough is making a Holiday Family Fun List, and realizing you may only have the energy to do just a few of these activities. So, while I love all the excitement and flurry of the holiday season, I don’t love the stress and hectic pace and pressure for perfection that Christmas presents.

This year, let’s give ourselves the gift of good enough instead.

  1. What a timely post, Genevieve.

When we live in such abundance, the concept of “enough”–ironic as it sounds–often escapes us. Having what’s good enough, being good enough. Little words, big thoughts.

    Thank you for the re-focusing.
